For most of us, our pets are an integral part of our family.  Often they are with us for 10 - 15 years, sometimes longer.  Some cats have been known to live in excess of 20 years! 

We love our pets deeply, so when it is time for them to die -
the pain and feeling of loss can be as strong as a person dying.

Also, there are times, for whatever reason, that our pets are lost and never found.  If you don't know the whereabouts of your pet, and all attempts to find them are to no avail - you can only hope that they are alive and enjoying themselves somewhere that is warm and dry, surrounded by loads of love.

(Has your beloved pet gone walkabout?  Don't forget to contact your local Animal Protection Agency to see if your pet has been handed in as found.  Although new adoptions are sweet - reunions are that much sweeter.)

The loss of a pet is very real and should not be underestimated. Taking the time to grieve and following the bereavement process is important for the loss of pets as well as people.
